TRAVEL+LEISURE: World's Top 10 Cities

Two of Travel+Leisure Magazine's Top 10 Cities in the World are in Southeast Asia. It just so happen that the Top 1 and 2 are in Thailand! Yey!

Bangkok is the World's No. 1 City destination according to 16,000 voters. The northern Thai city of Chiang Mai came in 2nd. Last year, they were voted 3rd and 5th respectively.

This great news was a big boost to the morale of Bangkokians after the 10-week civil disorder that rocked the city. The poll stopped a few days before it happened.

Incidentally, the T+T also listed the Top 10 Cities in Asia: Bangkok (1), Chiang Mai (2), Siem Reap (4), Hanoi (8) are Southeast Asian cities that made it to the list.

Here is the full list of the World's Top 10 Cities.

OUR TREASURES: The Grand Palace of Bangkok | พระบรมมหาราชวัง

The most distinctive and important structures in the whole Kingdom of Thailand is the historical Royal Grand Palace complex in Bangkok. The gleaming radiance of its golden roofs and spires awed visitors and locals for two hundred years.

Here is where the Thai kings are crowned, revere the precious Emerald Buddha, display the distinctive Thai architecture and most of all, represents the very heart and soul of the Thai people.

The complex used to be the official residence of previous Kings of Thailand -- The last king who lived here was King Rama VIII in 1935-1946. The splendid Chitrlada Rahothan Palace (a few kilometres away) is the present residence of H.M. King Bhumibol (Rama IX) and H.M. Queen Sirikit. *I get emotional just by writing their names*

The Royal Grand Palace Complex was built around 1782 after the sacking of the former Thai capital of Ayutthaya. The Burmese has a habit of bullying us in those days and I have asked – and going to ask again – “Where are they now? Huh?”

The complex is open to the public every day from 8:30am to 3:30pm, unless it is used for state functions. It is imperative that you show up properly dressed – tank tops, shorts and bikinis (yes, I have seen tourists walking about in their bikini tops and matching straw hats! The nerve!) are totally inappropriate. Entrance to the complex is 250 Baht (25 Ringgit, $ 7, Php 400) but free for the locals. All taxis know where it is and it is safe to take a taxi if you wanna come here. We are proud of our honest taxi drivers.

The Royal Grand Palace of Bangkok is undoubtedly one of Southeast Asia’s treasures. Its magnificence and grandeur symbolizes the very heart and soul of my people.

LET'S GO BROKE!

I was out all day and all night yesterday (and just about everyday, anyway) because it’s “Let’s Go Broke” day for me and my friends. It’s what we do once a month as a group to strengthen our bond *me, making faces* and enhance our self-indulgence with our already over-bearing attitudes. Ha! Lol.

What we do is – EACH of us can ONLY bring $1,000 and try to spend it within the day we’re all out together. Whoever spends the least money at the end of the day LOSES and buys dinner. Lame you say? Yeah, whatever -- you got better idea?

Anyway, if you’re thinking this is easy – NO IT’S NOT! Let me tell you why…First, we are carrying cash –something we are not used to. Secondly, credit cards are taken away for the day, so if we go to a shop that is “cards only”…we’re fucked! Thirdly, 32,000 Baht to spend within the day is NOT easy, why? – We usually spend more than that! There – you made me say it. Take that!

Morgan, Tommy, Sucre, Sofia and me met up at Bar Italia in Gaysorn Plaza just before lunch yesterday. Usual chit-chat about nothings and about my blog. Yeah, we talk about my blog and we talk about YOU – our readers. But that’s another story. I’ll tell you all about it another time.

We dudes played a little trick on the babes – we voted 3 against 2 to be just like everybody else and go to Chatuchak Market on a Sunday! Sofia and Sucre turned pale and tried to protest, but hey, the council has decided. Chatuchak it is!

“Let me go to the pharmacy first and buy poison to kill myself!” Sofia bolted.

“I’ll go with you and let’s buy poison for two.” Sucre said blankly.

“C’mon guys! It would be fun. Just think how much stuff you can buy for 32,000 Baht in Chatuchak!” Morgan teased the poor babes.

Sofia stood up, hands on waist --“Let me tell you what, you asshole! First, it’s almost 1pm and we are too late! Do you know how many people go to Chatuchak?! Secondly, we are carrying too much cash! You moron! And thirdly you nitwit – I AM WEARING AIGNER TODAY! – *the “Aigner” part echoed through the Middle East and stopped the bombing for 3 full minutes.*

We dudes are all having the day of our lives. *Whaddaf*ck?!* We’ve never seen Sofia this upset to the point of losing it in public! LOL. And Sucre, on her Munchu outfit -- forking her Kwanpen bag trying to make it bleed. LOL

This went on for hours! Five overly bearing Eurasians with the longest legs in SE Asia, didn’t know what to do with the drama at hand but munch on anything the waiter bring us.

So, to tame the Aigner-wearing Sofia and the Munchu-sporting Sucre, we just headed off to Siam Paragon and shopped our wits out.

And of course, we all lost the game –ended up using our cards after spending $1,000 in just 30 minutes. *sigh* But hey! I made mine last for at least 2 hours! Take that! Ha!

OUR TREASURES: Trimitr Golden Buddha

The jaw-dropping Golden Buddha of Wat Traimitr in Bangkok is the largest Golden buddha Image in the world. It stands 15 feet 9 inches tall and weighs approximately 5.5 tons of pure solid gold.

It is crafted in the typical artistic style of the days when Sukhothai (427 km from Bangkok) was the capital of Thailand in the 13th-15th century. It is now more than 700 years old.

The image was originally covered in stucco plaster and the story how it was discovered still awed people to this day:

In 1931, the East Asiatic Company extended their work (with official permission) on the grounds of the abandoned Choti-Naram Temple in Yannawa District of Bangkok. The principal image of the Buddha was moved to Wat Traimitr to be enshrined there. They were all dumbfounded why the the stucco image was so heavy, so it ramained untouched on one corner of the temple grounds for the next 20 years.

It was only in 1955 when they finally planned to enshrine the almost forgotten image of the Buddha to the main temple. When it was tried to be moved, they found it impossible. They have to use a crane to lift it and place it on the intended shrine.

The crane tripped over, dropped the image and a part of the stucco plaster fell off! They were all dumbfounded of what they saw; The image, as it turned out, was made of pure solid gold! And it was crafted in the typical artistic style of the Sukhothai period. Now the image is deemed on its artistic value, it's history and of course its worth in gold.

It is now enshrined in a discreet corner of the Trimitr Temple where it was originally placed in the 50's. Tourists asked why such precious image made of solid gold is not guarded at all. Well, it is too heavy to be stolen anyway and the temple gates are too small. If somebody wants to steal it, he would have to use a friggin' crane and demolish the temple gates too! Not a very discreet operation, is it?

Legend has it that the said image was covered in stucco plaster to conceal it from the invading Burmese. Burma has a habit of invading and sacking the Thai Kingdom in those days (where are they now? Ha!). *one eye brow raised as high as Mt. Everest*

How an image, as heavy as this, was transported from Sukhothai (in panic) to Bangkok over 700 years ago still awed scholars and historians to this day.

There is no other Buddha image in the whole world as precious and as mesmerising as this one. Come and see it on your next visit to Thailand. The Trimitr Golden Bhuddha image is truly one of our SE Asian treasures.

GAYSORN PLAZA, Bangkok

Hello everybody! Sofia again for Bi.S.E.A.N.
This blogging thing is fokkin trouble! I really don't understand why people even bother to do it. But since I'm doin this for my baby Pisanu, ok let's go along with it. Faen.

I was out shopping today for a new pair of shoes to commemorate Serbia's Eurovision triumph. And while I was out, I see myself thinking and scouting for anything interesting to post on this blog. Are all bloggers experiencing this? Even if we're not even sure if anyone or anything care about what we write here? I hate myself to even care and worry what things to blog here! Fede pis!

If this is the case, well, I think I'm going to turn this blog into a shopping blog. Because that's what I do best! And if my baby Pisanu isn't back in time to save this blog from me, it's his problem. As somebody commented, I am doing a great job messing this blog. Ja!

That's enough intro already...

This is Gaysorn Plaza, where the Republic of Eurasia (our group) mostly hang around and meet for afternoon teas. If you have been to Bangkok, I'm sure you've seen this one. If not, better get your ass over here and check it out.

Gaysorn Plaza is not for the office workers, sales people (unless they work here), call center moonies or alike. This is where you find the top of the line shops like Aigner, LOUIS VUITTON!, Gaultier, Zegna etc. This is also where top Thai designers showcase their fabulous creations!

Anybody who shows up with cash is frowned upon and people who ask the price is discreetly laughed at.

Gaysorn Plaza is located in Bangkok's posh shopping area called Rachaprasong. Where you can also find Central World Plaza, Siam Paragon, Siam Discovery, Erawan Plaza, etc. This is also where Thailand do it's New Year countdown like Times Square in New York.

And when you're here, don't forget to check out Bar Italia. Superb pasta dishes! Superb wine and this is where me and my group meet all the time. So if you wanna catch us, this is where you go and say hello.

I think this is enough for today. See you all later!

And by the way, for that girl who was asking if Pisanu is my boyfriend, YES! You got a problem with that bitch? Knep dig selv.

D’autres tres realistes. En bois, en fer, en polystirene. Gros, petit, long, fin.

Hahahaha haaaaaa. Ahem.

BEST CLUBS in SE ASIA: Narcissus Club Bangkok

This place used to be the most exclusive club in the whole of Bangkok. I’m NOT talking about being expensive and all...

Narcissus Club is absolutely one of the best happening places in all of Southeast Asia. Located in the posh area of Sukhumvit 23, this place is NOT for the party poopers, party crashers, old aunties and uncles, balding yuppies, 80-year-old hookers, paddy field maidens, t-shirt wearing goat herders, blue-jeans wearing social climbers and alike. No, these kinds are courteously referred to another club down the road.

Narcissus is grand, flamboyant, and ostentatious where everybody is hands down GORGEOUS! The best place to display yourself and be seen.

I was just here last night. The place is grander, sleazier with a lot of ugh! But the crowd, sad to say has changed.

You see, long ago... this place used to have “Uglies No Entry” policy. Think Studio 54, where Ryan Philippe has to take off his shirt to prove he’s one hot dude to get in! That’s the policy, if the floor manager don’t think you’re hot enough – “move over please dahlin’”.

I used to bring people that I don’t like to Narcissus. People from school or some friends of a friend of a friend who "thinks" they are so hot; they raise their noses so high. I would conspicuously invite and subject them to the door keeper’s cruel scrutiny… most of the time, they get left out. Opted to go back home humiliated; LOL. You're not too hot as you think you are huh! LOL. Those were the days.

The main sound here is Techno-Trance to cater to pill poppers, mushroom chewers and powder sniffers. When the confetti’s starts pouring, and the laser lights beam in full blast; this is the time everybody goes fucken wild! Ledge dancers, cage vixens (and occasional go-go boys) will gyrate like hell prompting everybody to do just about anything on the floor.

One can cruise to the upper levels of the club. Narcissus is designed like a huge mansion and an opera theater put together. This is where I got my first ever kissing orgy. Every single person in the club is so fucken gorgeous that night, I french kissed them all! I ended up bringing home 3 babes and 4 dudes and had the best sex party at my place! Oh, it gets painful just remembering that night.

But sad to say the crowd has changed. The uglies can get in and the old aunties can hang around and order drinks at the bar (displaying themselves for what?) Ha!

And also nowadays, Narcissus has become a tourist destination –for crying out loud! Japanese, Korean, Chinese tourists in knee-pants and Giordano shirts can get in and roam the club as they please. Somebody kill the tourist guides please! I beg you! And add the beer-drinking white trash tagging along their latest bitch from Soi Cowboy! Ugh!

I used to come here once week, but now the crowd has turned fuglies, I limit it to once in every three months. THOSE WERE THE DAYS. But Narcissus is still the best!

There! Take that!

Post Note: I hope you guys are not assuming I took these pictures last night! What do you think I am? A fucking TOURIST? Ha!

BEST CLUBS in SE ASIA: Santika Club Bangkok

Beautiful music. Beautiful lights. Beautiful babes. Beautiful dudes. Beautiful. Beautiful. Beautiful. That's all I can say. Take that!

Located in Bangkok's posh district of Wattana on Ekkamai 11, this is a place to go and display yourself. You wanna be seen? You can't go wrong with this place. Usually a mix crowd but you know what's "in" a mixed crowd... willing gorgeous dudes and babes to come home with you! Preferrably both of them please.

Santika Club is where the chic babes and stylish dudes go. So, you gotta be one yourself. Take that!

Y'gotta be careful a little bit though. Gorgeous people comes with a price. No, not a tag price but a look to match theirs. People who come here are so gorgeous that you could be ditched in a second! Here is where I got my first--ever....uhmmm...no, I don't wanna say...maybe another time. Take that!

And also, most clubs in Bangkok closes around 1 or 2 am. If you fancy a night with tight-fitting uniformed police and spend a night in jail...then stay longer than that for all I care. Don't tell me I didn't warn you.

Oh, if you come here, bring a click-counter with you. Y'know those small thingy to count hot babes and dudes that that guy on the Axe commercial use? You're gonna be needing that. My last count was 137 gorgeous babes and dudes. That's a lot in one room! Hmmmm....yummy!

You wanna try their samplers?...here...

Yum!

Yum-yum!

Yum-yum-yum!

Can you find me in the crowd?

More yum-yum-yum! Oh and by the way, they got excellent food too. Proceed to Harlem next door. But of course you won't go there for the food, will you? Naaaahhh! I thought so!

****

This is a five star venue for me. Try it when you're in Bangkok. It's gonna hurt down there -- guaranteed!
