SOUTHEAST ASIA’S MIGHTIEST ARMIES

Two villages in our region belong to the World’s 10 Mightiest Armed Forces Vietnam and Burma. What they need their forces for, well, we don’t know.

Thailand and Indonesia are also in the world’s Top 15.

In the age of Global Community, military force has gone “passé”. Most countries are channeling their energy to economic development, finding trade partners and overhauling their nation.

Here’s Southeast Asia’s Mightiest Armies measured by the number of Active Troops and total manpower. Reserve Forces aren’t counted obviously because those figures are for “intimidation purposes only”. Southeast Asia's mightiest...

1. Vietnam – 484,000 Active Service Personnel. 4 million on Reserve Force and more than 5 million in the Paramilitary. Total manpower force: 9,560,000> The World’s 10th.

2. Burma – 428,250 Active Service Personnel. None on reserve and 72,000 in the Paramilitary. Total: 500,000> The World’s 12th.

3. Indonesia – A country of 235 million people has 410,000 Active Service Personnel. Another 400,000 as Reserves and 200,000 in the Paramilitary. The World’s 13th with more than a million troops.

4. Thailand – is the World’s 15th mightiest army with 306,600 Active Service Personnel. Another 200,000 in Reserve and 115,000 in the Paramilitary. Total of more than 625,000 troops.

5. Cambodia – With only a little over 13 million populations, Cambodia is Southeast Asia’s 5th mightiest army with 125,000. No reserves and 67,000 in the Paramilitary. The world’s 38th.

6. Philippines – The region’s 2nd most populous country (91 million) only got 113,500 Active Service Personnel. With 131,000 more as reserves and 158,000 in the Paramilitary.

7. Malaysia – 110,000 Active Service Personnel. Additional 41,000 reserves and 20,000 in the Paramilitary is the region’s highest paid army.

8. Singapore – only has 60,500 Active Service Personnel but got the 3rd most number of reserves with 312,500 after Vietnam and Burma.

9. Laos – How 29,100 Active Service Personnel handles a population of 6 million people is something short of a mystery.

10. Brunei – the Abode of Peace doesn’t need much army anyway. So they opted to list only 7,000 of them on the payroll. Hey! There are only 375,000 Bruneians in the world!

Let's kill each other with kindness.

Dissolve the useless United Nations.

World peace.

Being next door to historical "friend and foe" China is one of the reasons for a big army. Unfortunately, they dont have the hardwares to match their manpower. Compulsory military service for the boys is another contributing factor.

Even though the Philippines' is in sixth, it has been said that its military is the most battered army in Asia. Mabuhay and Pilipinas.

Lol Malaysia's highest paid? Something new that I am learning today

@ Anonymous...yup, it may so well be the most battered army in Southeast Asia.

Asia maybe over reaching because the Vietnamese and the Japanese has seen more action throughout the century.

Please bear in mind that the only reason why Filipino soldiers were sent to Korea in the 50s and Vietnam in the 60s is because the country was an American Colony.

As America was the mastermind of most wars we've seen. LOL
