OUR CULINARY GEMS: Kdam Char Umpil |
Cambodian Tamarind Crab

Bonjour! Are you looking for another way to cook your crabs? Here’s a delicious dish from Cambodia that I collected when we were there 2 weeks ago!

Cambodian cuisine is not as spicy as Thai or Vietnamese food. Its unique taste is a bit on the sour side and a little sweeter. Cambodians love to use tamarind pulp in most of their dishes and this ingredient is distinctly Southeast Asian. Try this easy to cook “Kdam Char Umpil” and enjoy a taste of Cambodia.

Here’s the recipe…

Preparation 15 mins
Cooking Time 15 mins
Serves 4

Ingredients

2 large Fresh Crabs, cleaned, cut body to 4 parts, claws cracked
2 heaped tbsp Tamarind Paste
1 tbsp Sugar
1 tbsp Fish Sauce
1/2 tbsp Soy Sauce
3 tbsp Cooking Oil
4 Garlic Cloves, crushed
4 Spring Onions, cut into 2.5cm/1-inch lengths
1/4 tsp Black Pepper

Directions

1. Mix the tamarind paste, sugar, soy sauce and fish sauce together in a small bowl. Set a side.

2. Stir fry the crabs and garlic in a large wok for 5 minutes.

3. Add the tamarind sauce mixture and cook for 5 minutes, mix well.

4. Add the spring onion and black pepper and stir fry for a further 3 minutes. Serve with rice with a smile.

Bon appetite!

@ Mark...sorry dude for deleting your comment on this section about those moronic websites. It's rubbish and as you agreed -- insulting so we need not promote it. If nobody reads it. it will die a natural cause.

Don't corrupt your dignity again with such websites. LET'S NOT PROMOTE IT.
