Southeast Asia's TOP 10 HOTELS

Travel + Leisure, the world’s number one travel magazine and leisure pulse, recently released their annual “World’s Bests” List. The most awaited of course, is the List of the Best Hotels in the World.

Derived from the Top 50 Hotels in Asia and the Top 100 Hotels in the World, only 10 hotels in Southeast Asia made it on the lists:

Southeast Asia’s Top 10 Hotels

1. Oriental Bangkok, Thailand (World: No.3 / Asia: No.2). The legendary and one of the world’s most luxurious hotel, the Oriental Bangkok has been the favorite of royalties, dignitaries and distinguished travelers since 1879. Located on the banks of the majestic Chao Phraya River, this prestigious hotel has 393 guest rooms and suites.

2. The Peninsula Bangkok, Thailand (World: 12 / Asia: 5)

3. Four Season’s Resort Chiang Mai, Thailand (World: 19 / Asia: 6)

4. Ritz Carlton Millenia, Singapore (World: 33 / Asia: 7)

5. The Strand Yangon, Burma (World: 34 / Asia: 8)

6. Raffles Hotel, Singapore (World: 40 / Asia: 10)

7. Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok, Thailand (World: 46 / Asia: 11)

8. Fullerton, Singapore (World: 77 / Asia: 13)

9. Shangri La Bangkok, Thailand (World: 89 / Asia: 17)

10. Four Seasons Hotel, Singapore (World: 91 / Asia: 18)

Although Thailand, Singapore and Burma are the only countries on the SE Asia’s Top 10 – Malaysia, Vietnam and Cambodia made it to Asia’s Top 50.

Indonesia, Brunei, Laos and the Philippines did not make it to any list.

Oh my god! The Oriental did it again! And the top 3 are all in Thailand! Impressive indeed!

Indonesian and Philippine hotels didn't make it probably because of the travel advisory issued by the U.S.? Maybe.

Anyway, advisory or no advisory, they can't compete with Thai hotels! And Singapore at that. I rest my case.

Cambodia? Which one? Which hotel? By the way, I have been to that Strand Hotel in Burma and it's really great. Worthy to be on that list.

This is a wake-up call to the Philippine hotel industry.

Yeah, no harm in competing. But I personally think the Philippines need to revamp their Tourism Gov't Agency. Even if we have the best hotels in the world but if tourists dont come, it's all pointless. Boot the current minister out and hire fresh, young people.

Thailand showed everybody how to do it, but nobody wants to compete! (except S'pore & M'sia)... I don't get it.

@ gitakawaii...thanks for the comment! =) This is your first here, right? It's always welcome and appreciated...don't make up lists here, as you did see for yourself about the source we got this one. =) But Bali is definitely BISEAN's Top Island too. next is Phuket, Krabi, Langkawi, Redang, etc...

I'm actually surprised that Indonesia is not on the list. I mean, Jakarta has nice hotels, although not as nice as Bangkok's Oriental (which truly deserves to be on the top of the list - my favorite hotel in the world - a tie with Park Hyatt Tokyo). But Bali has all kinds of luxury hotels - from the ridiculously priced 10,000-dollar-a-night resorts to the cheaper ones like Four Seasons Bali (my 2nd favorite hotel in the world). Singapore's Raffles is overrated.

Hi there! I was wondering why Brunei is not in the lists. I know there is one hotel rated 7 stars in SEA and 5 stars World Hotel. It is listed as a member of the World Hotels and nominated for World Luxury Hotel Awards 2009!
