WE ARE WITH YOU, BURMA!
The largest street protest in more than 20 years against the military government of Burma was lead by monks. The peaceful public defiance started last Thursday and slowly gaining momentum -- other cities have already joined in.Yesterday in Yangon, 10 000 Buddhist monks marched under the pouring rain to peacefully protest against the government’s treatment of its citizens and an earlier physical assault on the monks. And for the first time, Buddhist nuns have also joined.
Monks in Southeast Asian society are highly revered. Their involvement brings a fresh new life to this long struggle. I know for a fact that when monks start to lead, people will follow.

I agree. Hopefully the monks' power demonstration will lead to no more bloodshet but a positive change in Burma.

It started last Thursday. I hope the people would take the cue. It's their chance. Let everybody know so the world would watch closely. The junta would think twice on using brutal force this time. Let the world know!
I would like to believe that THIS time the junta will do the right thing...and transition to a democracy. BUT, Burma has always been stuck within the vacuum of superpower politics; thus whatever ends up happening in Burma will be determined by China not by the citizens of Burma.
One other point that is quite strange...the town I live in the US has all of the sudden (like starting six months ago) seen a real surge in Burmese refugees and I have just found out that another 50 families are to be here in another two weeks. A month ago when I first found out about the relocations I wondered what was going to happen in Burma because for years no one cared about the Burmese in camps in Thailand and now all of the sudden one town in the USA is placing over 150 families in a very short time? Did Thailand know that there was brewing unrest in Burma and demand that the refugees be resettled so that they would not have any problems? Did China want the refugees resettled so that there were less troublemakers for them to deal with?
I wish for the dignity of the Burmese people to be rewarded and I hope that their suffering comes to an end...good luck!
It's about time!!! I hope this time it leads to the end of the military junta...I know ethnic Karen Burmese emigre's who have been fighting the regime from bloody 20 years ago here in Sydney...Ben C. if you read this blog, my thoughts are with you and your people!!!!
