HOW MUCH DID WE PAY OUR BEAUTY QUEENS LAST YEAR?
It pays to be a beauty queen, doesn’t it? Now that the pageant season is over, how much did we pay our “queens” in 2007?
Miss Malaysia-World took home RM12,000 (US$3,600) cash, some perks and that’s it! Miss Malaysia-Universe even got way, way lower at RM5,000 (US$1,500) Pfft! Talk about attracting “quality” contestants heh?
Miss Indonesia-Universe got 20 million Rupiah (US$2,100) and a 15 million Rupiah (US$1,500) diamond ring, a house and lot and a Yamaha motorcycle! What? A motorcycle? Miss Indonesia-World got 50 million Rupiah (US$5,300) in cash and some other perks not worth mentioning. Gosh! Their Indonesian Idol got 150 million (US$16,000) cash prize!
Miss Philippines-World, Universe, International and Earth got Php250,000 (US$5,000) each.
Miss Singapore Universe got SG$25,000 (US$17,500) in cash and Miss Earth Singapore got SG$10,000 (US$7,000). That’s all and some prizes not worth mentioning.
Who pays the most? And who got the most prizes?
Miss Thailand-World took home 1 million Baht (US$34,000) in cash! PLUS a diamond necklace worth 800,000 Baht (US$27,000), a brand new Toyota Camry (US$30,000) and a house and lot. Oh sweetie, these are just the major prizes. She got more than that! A total package of almost 5 million Baht or US$168,000! That’s more than the Miss World prize money!
Miss Thailand-Universe also took home 1 million Baht (US$34,000) in cash and a US$10,000 diamond necklace, a US$20,000 diamond crown and a brand new Honda CRV worth 1.25 million Baht (US$42,000). That’s more than Miss Universe’s 1-year salary! (Miss Universe doesn’t have prize money).
Unlike other countries that pass on their worthless rhinestone junk of a crown…please note that in Thailand, our beauty queens get to keep their crowns as part of the prizes.
While others are sooo desperate to win an international title (for bigger prizes), Thai beauty queens are just in it for the “duty”. HELLO sweetie! She just became a multi-millionaire a few months ago…why would she care to “desperately” compete abroad?

WHAT A GREAT COMEBACK SOFIA!!! Yeah, our Queen Babes got prizes as itsy-bitsy-teeny-weeny as their swimsuits but I'm sure their media exposure earned them millions of mullah from product endorsements, film deals and other telly contracts! Way to go babes! A lot of dudes will surely go gaga over them...beauty with loads of fat cash!

Yes. Our holder of Miss Universe, World and International franchise,the Binibining PIlipinas (Miss Philippines) Organization gives only a lump sum for the winners while its revenues are over 100 times bigger than the prizes due to the high tv ratings of the pageant night.
Our local pageant organization are very good at mismanaging. Nevertheless, we still manage to be the best pageant nation in SE Asia, and second in Asia, next to India. I just hope they would give bigger prizes so as to attract high-caliber women.
