The Uber-Spectacular Langkawi Skybridge

The Langkawi Sky Bridge on Gunung Mat Cincang is endorsed by Travel and Leisure Magazine as one of the world's most spectacular bridge designs. It is 700 metres above sea level making it one of the world's highest single support bridges.

Atop this bridge, you can get a 360 degree views of the Langkawi Archipelago, the Amdaman Sea, and Southern Thailand.

A perfect example of why Malaysia is the region's frontrunner in environmental preservation.

LONGEST TUNNELS IN SOUTHEAST ASIA

Road Tunnels are engineering marvels that never fails to amaze (and amuse!) me. I always make sure I am wide awake entering it, holding my breath while passing it and let a sigh of relief as soon as I get out of it. I’m sure you do too. The ultimate claustrobhobia-inducing nightmare for some =)

These are the 10 Longest (Navigable) Tunnels in Southeast Asia. The list includes all type of tunnels -- Sub-aqueous road tunnels, rock, shield and immersed tubes but excludes the subway systems of Singapore, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur.

1. Hai Van Pass Tunnel, Vietnam. At 6280 m (6.28 km) long it is the longest navigable tunnel in the whole of Southeast Asia. It was opened on 05 June 2005. The tunnel has a cross sectional area of 73 sq.m. and carries daily traffic from the Port City of Danang to Hue.

2. CTE II, 3.7 km (highway), Singapore

3. SMART Tunnel, 3.3 km (highway); 9.7km (floodway), Malaysia

4. CTE, 2.4 km (highway), Singapore

5. CTE I, 1.7 km (highway) , Singapore

6. Khun Tan Tunnel, 1.4 km, Thailand (rail tunnel in Lampang and Lamphun provinces)

7. Phra Phutthachai Tunnel, 1.2 km, Thailand (rail tunnel in Saraburi province)

8. Genting Sempah Tunnel, 900 m (highway), Malaysia

9. Menora Tunnel, 800 m (highway), Malaysia

10. Penchala Tunnel, 700 m (highway), Malaysia

If bridges are out of the question, dig tunnels.

SINGAPORE FLYER: World’s Tallest Ferris Wheel for a Few Months

Finally, it’s finished! You dudes and babes don’t have any idea how long have we been waiting fro this dang Ferris Wheel to be completed. We have flown in and out of Singapore in the past year and this giant structure is just standing just right below us, my nose press against the dang cabin window.

The Singapore Flyer is the World’s Tallest at 541 ft! Now that the world is taking a new meaning to “observation decks”, do you think Singapore would be left out? Uh-uh! No, siree. They have just built the tallest of ‘em all.

Although it is “officially” the tallest in the worldnot for long. When the Great Dubai Wheel opens late this year, it would be 66 ft taller at 607 ft. And early next year… the Beijing Great Wheel will open at 682 ft! *what a bunch of kill-joys. Ha!*

So, what are you waiting for? Plan a trip to Singapore and try the Singapore Flyer while it is the planet’s tallest. Here’s their official website. It would be one of the best experience in Singapore – guaranteed. And it's not just a ferris wheel... it's an engineering marvel!

Note: For the record, although it already opened last 01 March, the grand launch is on 15 April 2008. See you there!
