OUR GIRLS IN THE MISS UNIVERSE 2010

Here are our FABULOUS delegates to the 2010 Miss Universe Pageant to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Live telecast of the coronation will be on 23 August 2010, Monday.

Our 5 girls will compete against 78 other delegates from around the globe. I don't know why Vietnam failed to send one this year (Can anyone give an input?)

Qory Sandioriva, 18, Jakarta
Nadine Ann Thomas, 23, Kuala Lumpur
Venus Raj, 22, Bato Town
Tania Lim, 23, Singapore
Fonthip Watcharatrakul ฝนทิพย์ วัชรตระกูล, 20, Samut Prakan

Please note that none of our girls look anything like the day they left their countries for the pageant. Why do they have to alter their looks? Anyways...

Good luck, girls! Bring home the pearls. Ooops! I forgot, they changed the crown into a cheap-looking rhinestone tiara. Ok, bring home the rhinestones!!! Go, go, go!!

Can you predict their chances?

OUR GIRLS IN THE MISS UNIVERSE 2009

Here are our gorgeous delegates to the Miss Universe Pageant this year in Nassau, Bahamas. Live telecast of the coronation will be on 23 August 2009, Sunday.

Zivanna Letisha Siregar, 20, 5'10", Jakarta
JoannaBelle Ng, 21,5'8", Kota Kinabalu
Pamela Manalo, 22, 5'10", Manila
Rachel Kum, 24, 5'7", Singapore
Chutima Durongdej, 23, 5'10", Bangkok
Võ Hoàng Yến, 20, 5'10, Ho Chi Minh City

Zivanna was Indonesia's Elite Model Look winner. Võ Hoàng is Vietnam's Supermodel 2008 winner. Chances? Too early to tell. But with the current trending on how they choose a Miss Universe -- these two will fit the ranks.

But if they are looking for a real beauty queen, it's Philippines' Bianca hands down.

Good luck, girls! Bring home the pearls.

WHO WILL GIVE US OUR 5TH CROWN?

It has been 20 years since our last Miss Universe was crowned – it was Porntip from Thailand in 1988.

Our very first Miss Universe crown was in 1965 won by Apasra, also from Thailand.

Southeast Asia has a total of 4 Miss Universes. Between Apasra and Porntip, there were Gloria in 1969 and Margarita in 1973 – both from the Philippines. (what lovely names!)

Yes, there were finalists and runners-up in between butc’mon sweetie, this is not a contest of 2nd bests, is it?

Anyways…although another Oriental Miss Universe as a successor this year would be almost a miracle, I can’t help to wonder...

Who will give us our 5th MU crown?...

You want a fearless prediction? –

None of ‘em.

Two of ‘em would place as a semi-finalist but only one
would go on to be a finalist. But that’s it.

No crown for us this year.

But I wish ‘em all the best of luck. They all need it.

OUR GIRLS IN THE MISS UNIVERSE 2008

It’s going to be pageant fever again in a few weeks…

For those who are taking it so seriously, it’s gonna be an exciting-ultra-fabulous event which would give “honor, glory and economic prosperity” to their country. *sure*

And for those who are so-and-so, well in the case of us Biseaners, it’s gonna be just another chance to make money on bet.com

The Miss Universe 2008 will be held in our turf (again!)Nha Trang City in Vietnam. And for some reason, they pronounce it as /'na 'charng/.

Come 14 July, over a billion people would have their eyes glued on telly hearing the words “Miss”, “finalists”, “Vietnam” over and over again for 2 hours.

Here are our girls in this “auspicious” event… *lolrtf*

All the best to our girls! Make us proud!

OK, A EURASIAN WON MISS EARTH…

If you think I’m celebrating…well, you’re wrong.
This is a rant. So for readers who got a soft-spot for beauty pageants, I suggest you don’t read this.

After almost 2 weeks without seeing each other, the BISEANers got together last night. And due to the insistence of Tommy [who obviously got a crush on Utt], we all got to watch Miss Earth on satellite feed. For those of you who are not familiar with Miss Earth…it’s a secondary beauty pageant that attached itself to environmental causes to make it sound relevant and different from the rest of the major world pageants.

Something’s fishy. Throughout the 7-year history of Miss Earth… the Philippines is always a finalist. Well, mainly because it’s their pageant. [Think Miss USA in Miss Universe or any UK country in Miss World]. This year, the Philippines is not a finalist. BUT…they made a half-Filipina half-Ukrainian Canadian win? Oh very clever! Very clever, sweetie!

Huh? What's this?!... How can a beauty pageant air for almost 4 hours? One commercial gap ran for more than 45 minutes! And you call this a major beauty pageant? Or maybe major “sponsor” pageant? And what’s with the announcement of names and credentials of people who give out flowers and sashes? Does any of the world’s major pageants do this? No.

Don’t start with Miss World being racist, because IT IS NOT!
Well, sweetie…how many Asians made it to the finalists in Miss Earth? How many Africans? Just like any pageant, they also prefer Latinas and Europeans, honey. Who’s racist now? Miss Earth is no different.

And to prove to you that even Asian pageants prefer Latinas and Europeans…take the case of Miss Asia. They changed it to Miss Asia-Pacific to include Aussies, Kiwis, the US and South American countries. As if like they are still not happy with it, they changed it again to Miss Asia-Pacific International to include the Europeans. What do you call that? Huh? What country owns Miss Asia-Pacific International, sweetie? Pfft! But boo-hoo…only Miss World and Miss Universe prefer Latinas and Europeans, don’t they?

It was a crazy night. Morgan lost his voice howling every time Miss Switzerland comes out. Pisanu smashed a beer bottle to the wall when Miss Spain was only called a runner up. Tommy and the girls kept giggling every time Utt stammers. I personally think Miss India should’ve won.

Sweetie, my main point is…since we all sour-grape and whine about Miss Universe or Miss World seldom give chances to Asians, why copy them? Give more chances to beautiful Asian women since this Miss Earth pageant is in our own turf.

Think about it, honey.
